A Rus Laurel Band

Amazing photography by Eva Bogaerts

One of the things I enjoy is trying to capture the feel of historic weaving even in modern /anachronistic use. A dear friend was getting elevated to the Order of the Laurel - a group that honors masters of Arts, & Sciences. The symbol is a laurel wreath. Her persona is 12th century Rus...so this was designed to try and capture both the Laurel wreath and a Rus style.

It's 79 cards of 120/2 silk brocaded with spun gold thread used singly. I averaged about 1/2-3/4" per hour.

This is the band that had the fascinating tension differences of the warp threads in the solid brocade areas.
